FAQ

How much does casting cost?

Casting costs are based on two components: labor and material, both of which depend on the final gram weight of each piece.

Material Costs

Material is calculated using the daily market rate of the chosen metal (silver, gold, bronze, or pewter), plus a 25% surcharge to account for refining loss, handling, and sourcing.

Labor Costs

$1.95 for items 1 gram or less

$1.85 for pieces between 1 and 5 grams

Over 5 grams? Let’s talk. Larger or heavier pieces may qualify for custom pricing. We’re always happy to share our process and find a way to make it work for your budget.

If you're unsure about your piece’s weight or need help estimating your costs, contact our team—we’re here to help.

What type of Finishing do you offer?

What types of finishing do you offer?

We offer several finishing options to suit the style and purpose of your jewelry:

– A shiny, mirror-like finish that gives your piece a clean and refined look. Ideal for classic and modern designs.

– A Southwest-inspired oxidized finish (available in silver and bronze only) that adds contrast and a vintage, hand-worn character.

– Unfinished pieces, clipped off the sprue with limited quality control. This is a great budget-friendly option for clients who plan to do their own finishing.

Not sure which finish is right for your piece? Our team is happy to guide you based on your design and desired outcome.

Do you give a Clip and Ship discount?

Yes, we do! If you choose to receive your jewelry unfinished (“clip and ship”), you’ll save on labor—and we’re happy to pass those savings on to you.

The discount varies by piece, but it's typically around $0.25 per gram. Since each design is different, feel free to ask us for a specific quote based on your order. We're always transparent and happy to help you find the most cost-effective option.

Is there an MOQ?

Yes. We require a minimum of 6 units per design (per piece) for casting. Additionally, we have a minimum total order value of $250 to initiate production.

These minimums help us ensure efficient use of materials and equipment while maintaining high-quality standards across all orders. If you're unsure whether your order meets these requirements, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help you plan your production.

What are our lead times?

Our standard lead time is approximately 5 weeks from the time we receive a fully operational mold. If we are creating a new mold or need to repair or modify an existing one, additional time will be required before production begins. We always recommend factoring in mold prep and approval when planning your timeline.

Have a tight deadline? Let us know—we’ll do our best to accommodate rush requests when possible.

How does the mold making process work?

Before we can create a mold, we need a master model of the piece you want to produce. Once we receive your master, we’ll evaluate it to determine the best mold approach based on size and design complexity.

We use RTV silicone to create our molds, which allows for high detail and durability. All molds are made in-house by our experienced team. The mold-making process typically takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the piece.

Mold pricing:

$45 - for pieces under 1" in diameter

$65 - for pieces larger than 1" (up to our maximum mold size of 2.5")

These fees include both labor and materials. If your piece exceeds the size limit or requires special handling, we’ll work with you on alternative options.

Need help preparing your master or unsure if your design is mold-ready? Contact our team—we’re happy to guide you through the process.

What is a Master?

A master is the original, high-quality version of your jewelry design that we use to create a production mold. It serves as the template for all future reproductions, so it must be clean, accurate, and fully finished—any flaws in the master will be replicated in every cast.

Masters can be made from metal or 3D-printed materials, as long as they’re durable and detailed enough for molding. Providing a perfect master ensures the best possible outcome for your castings, so we recommend thoroughly inspecting your piece—or working with us to refine it—before moving into mold production.

Can you help create a design and make a master for us?

Yes, absolutely! We work with many clients to help develop their designs and create a master ready for molding and production.

Please keep in mind that design development is a collaborative process—it often involves some back-and-forth to get everything just right. We’re happy to guide you through it, but it does take time.

Production and mold-making cannot begin until the master is finalized, so we recommend starting this process early if you’re working toward a specific deadline. If you have sketches, CAD files, or reference pieces, send them our way—we’re here to help bring your ideas to life.

What’s our process from start to finish?

It all starts with a conversation. To begin working with us, simply contact us or request a quote. Once we receive a bit of information about you and your company, an account manager will reach out to walk you through the next steps and gather the details needed to take your order.

At Sundancer, we don’t just want to manufacture your jewelry—we want to be your long-term manufacturing partner. That means open, reliable communication from the start. Once you’re in our system, reordering is simple—often just an email away. But we’re always available to talk through your ideas, timelines, or production goals.

Let’s build something great—together.
